Little Houses (Blogger’s Quilt Festival)

I’m so excited to participate for the very first time in the Blogger’s Quilt Festival! This quilt is going into the baby quilt category.

As soon as I saw this design, I knew I had to make it. The original pattern is called Full House, and this Little Houses quilt is my interpretation. I changed a couple of things (making the houses a bit shorter and more squat, making the sidewalk sashing into its own block to increase the white space, eliminating the patchwork at the top and bottom).

The line I used is Celebrate Spring by Sandy Gervais for Moda, because it has such a great variety of colors and prints. When it came time to quilt it, I used Warm & Natural 100% Cotton batting, and free motioned small, meandering loops in all the white, leaving the houses and sidewalks untouched. Now that the quilt is washed to give it that beautiful crinkling, the houses and sidewalks really puff out, and the result is everything I’d hoped for.

I really like the red binding against the white, and how it brings out the reds in the prints. For the back I chose a simple rosette print, and you can see the outline of the rows of houses puffy on the back as well, which is cute.

It finishes at 38″x45″. I am absolutely in love with this cute quilt.
